HEY WHAT’S UP BRO.

It’s indeed been some time. What have I accomplished in this approximately 2 months of time? Very, very little.  I purchased many more NES games out of my disturbing obsession with them. I began playing Minecraft in an even more obsessive manner, although a horrible incident involving lava, water, and the odd physics of fluids in that game have caused me to take some personal time off of Minecraft. I played L.A. Noire, and learned that, were I to become a policeman who’s only options were Truth, Doubt, and Lie, crime would run rampant in the world. What else have I done, you ask? Well, for that, you’ll just have to wait and see. ;)

Nah, I’m kidding. Things I’m currently working on/planning:

•  Beating the entire main series of Mario games. I realized about a week ago that I own pretty much all of them (barring Sunshine and Galaxy 2) and thought it would be fun to go through them all.
• I recently got access to a Netflix account, and I’m considering watching terrible, terrible old horror movies and reviewing them on here. The only problem is that there are far too many. This means that you (yes, YOU) should suggest movies that would be entertaining…or cringeworthy.
• Beating my normal complement of summer games. There are certain games I just play through about once a year because I love them with all of my heart. These generally include Startropics 2: Zoda’s Revenge, Resident Evil 4, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Kirby Super Star, and The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past.
• Getting more Genesis and Game Gear and Dreamcast games. I was always a Nintendo kid, and never had any Sega systems. Although now that I own some, I think that may have been the right decision. I can’t seem to find any games that are like…good. I’ve got Sonic, and Mortal Kombat II for the Genesis, Alien 3 (ugh…) for the Game Gear, and Soul Caliber for the Dreamcast…and that’s it. Again, you need to tell me if there are games for these systems that will not make me cry.

2011 Best Picture Nominees

Yesterday, at 10:00 AM, I decided that watching all 10 of the nominees for Best Picture was a much better plan than like, sleeping or something foolish like that. Anyway. I sat for 24 hours and watched what are theoretically the 10 best films released this year. Now after roughly three hours of sleep I’ll see what I can yell angrily about them.

The Rural Alberta Advantage

You like Neutral Milk Hotel, right? You’ve never heard of Neutral Milk Hotel? Ugh. Okay, I don’t have time for that. Right now we are discussing The Rural Alberta Advantage. They’re a very folksy band from, surprise, Alberta. I discovered them while looking at the list of bands on Saddle Creek Records. If you have heard of Neutral Milk Hotel, and I hope you have, you’ll hear the extreme similarity in the vocals. The RAA’s first album Hometowns came out in 2009, and on March 1st, their second album, Departing will be released. I am way excited, and this band is pretty much all I’ve been listening to for about a week. They made me put down The People’s Key, and that takes some work. Stuff I’m Liking.

A recent spate of snow days has sent me into a spiral of nerdiness from which I may never recover, not that I quite want to. The main factor in my self inflicted loneliness? The wonder that is Dead Space 2. Hopefully, in the near future, me and Suppes will geek out and audibly yell at you why this game rocks. After the jump, I say more things.

Remembering The White Stripes.

R.I.P.

So today when I awoke, the internet informed me of two things. The first was that school had already been canceled tomorrow, which brought me great joy. This joy was soon crushed by the news that The White Stripes had broken up. This is not the happiest news. The White Stripes are (were) my 2nd favorite band like, ever, and their music was one of the driving forces that made me realize that classic rock, while wonderful, was not the only thing that existed. So to somewhat alleviate my depression, here’s my favorite song from each of the White Stripes’ six albums.

AWOLNATION

The song is “Burn It Down” by AWOLNATION. If you’re afraid of listening to music without it being compared via some sort of analogy to another musician, it’s as if Eric Hutchinson traded his piano for a synthesizer. Check the video responses on the Youtube page for a remix by Innerpartysystem, the only way to make this song any cooler.

Anne Hathaway as Catwoman: A poor choice.

So it has been reported that Anne Hathaway is going to be Catwoman in the next Dark Knight film. Am I the only one that finds this to be not a good choice? Not that I have anything personally against Anne Hathaway. I think she is a wonderful actress. It’s just that…it’s Catwoman. Let me try and explain.

That’s Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman, all in skintight leather and whatnot. It is clearly meant to be sexy, and it succeeds, because, well, skintight leather. And this is good, because Catwoman is supposed to be sexy. She was created to be sex appeal. She has a whip, for god’s sake.

That’s Halle Berry as Catwoman. Again with leather. You can argue that the movie is terrible (and it is.) You can argue that Halle Berry did not do a good job acting (probably why she won a Razzie.) But you cannot argue that Halle Berry is not sexy. Ignoring the rest of the film, as should be done by everyone, this is a good representation of Catwoman.

This is Anne Hathaway. Anne Hathaway is not sexy. Anne Hathaway is adorable. This is in no way a bad thing – in fact I think Anne Hathaway is considerably more attractive than Halle Berry. But at the same time, I just don’t think that Anne Hathaway is right for the part of Catwoman. In my head, at least, I just can’t see it happening in a way that is good. I could be wrong. I hope I am, actually. I would love for Anne to just surprise me and be freaking amazing. But we’ll have to wait and see.

(Jessica Alba would be a much better choice. Jessica Alba would be a much better choice for most film roles.)

Let’s Play: A wonderful way to waste your time.

Everyone loves playing video games. Or at least I do. I assume you do as well, or you wouldn’t be reading this. Or maybe you don’t. In that case, GTFO.

Okay, now that they’re gone. Let’s discuss Let’s Play-ing. Not sure how to verbify that. Anyway. Let’s Plays are essentially a feed of a person playing a video game while they (usually) provide commentary. Now, admittedly, this sounds like the most boring thing ever, and you might be right. Done poorly or by boring people, Let’s Plays can be arduous to sit through. But when done well, they are absolutely hilarious. After the jump are a few to convince you that I am not insane.

2010: It was indeed a year.

2010 doesn’t particularly stand out in my remembrance of years, entertainment wise or life wise. It was just a year. I don’t remember much about it, honestly, but I’ll try and remember my favorite things.

This is not one of them.

Classics Review: The Brave (and Terrifying) Little Toaster

Finals are over, and I can now return to caring even less about school than I did during finals. Thusly, more posting.

The Brave Little Toaster is quite possibly my favorite animated movie of all time. It’s the story of five anthropomorphic appliances who set out in search of their Master, a little boy who used to live in the cabin they inhabit. It’s actually based on a science fiction novel written in 1980.

Irresponsible life decisions.
