Dead Island: Quite Possibly the Most Epic Video Game Trailer Ever

16 02 2011

Let’s detail out a few quick facts here before I link the epic-ness you are about to see:

  1. I randomly saw a tweet by Entertainment Weekly for the trailer of this game. I was intrigued, as I hadn’t heard anything about it at all, and because I’m a sucker for zombie games, moves, et cetera.
  2. I was simply expecting a normal, action packed, heavy metal-filled zombie video game trailer.
  3. I saw the description “Lost-meets-The Walking Dead and suddenly became way more interested.

And then I watched the trailer…

Hoe. Lee. Shit.

Say it with me now: Hoe. Lee. Shit.

I know that trailers of any sort shouldn’t be used to judge an unreleased game or movie, but damn. I think it’s going to be pretty hard for me to not pick up a copy of this when the game comes out, especially if the game is story driven ala World War Z.

What’s more is that this is coming off of the trailer for the decade-late game Duke Nukem Forever, which had an equally entertaining trailer, albeit far less serious. What are we coming to in this world where people are making video game trailers amazingly artistic? In short, I have to play this game now.

[Sidenote: As far as movie trailers go so far this year, Battle: Los Angeles definitely takes the cake. Sure, there’s a good chance it can still be a lackluster movie, but it’s certainly not straightforwardly cheesy like Skyline.]

New Voiceover Makes NatGeo’s Honey Badger Clip 100 Times More Hilarious

10 02 2011

Original

New and Improved

Yeah, just goes to show that you can take just about anything educational, give it a goofy narrator  (Damn Nature, You Scary!), and turn it into something entertaining. Call me old fashioned or easy to entertain, but I was pretty much rolling for the entirety of this gayer rendition of the Honey Badger segment. Maybe it gets a little old since 70% of the video is “Oh my God, he’s eating a snake!”, but I’ll give it a pass. This is the best educational video spoof since What Really Happened to Rusty, the Narcoleptic Dachshund.

Oh God, This is the Best Video of All Time

24 01 2011

Super duper hat tip to Craig for this epic submission

Whenever I see a video that humorously spoofs something that most of America finds annoying, like movies starring Cam Gigandet and anything written by Snookie, I usually comment about how I wish I had the sheer talent required to do such things. When you really think about it, writing snarky jokes about pop culture isn’t nearly as hard as creating a two minute Youtube video that provides nothing but belly laughs for its entirety. I simply have neither the tools nor the wit to do something like that (ok, maybe I have the wit, but it doesn’t flow out as freely as the really popular internet funny guys… wait, I worded that wrong).

So with humble comments shoved aside and laughed at, here is a video by some guy named Mark Little. Soon enough he’s just going to be known as “That Mark Little” or maybe “That Funny Truck Spoof Guy”, because his parody of the annoyingly pretentious Ford F-150 truck commercials is as perfect as a spoof can be. It takes the douchery of the Ford commercials, then raises that douchery manliness to the necessary levels of absurdity, and then…… why am I using such big words to describe such a simple concept? This video is really freaking funny. Watch and enjoy, and then watch it again. Trust me, you’ll grow testicles.

2010: It was indeed a year.

5 01 2011

2010 doesn’t particularly stand out in my remembrance of years, entertainment wise or life wise. It was just a year. I don’t remember much about it, honestly, but I’ll try and remember my favorite things.

This is not one of them.

Web Wednesday: Zero Punctuation, Guidos, Car Ballet

22 12 2010

Awesome Sites:

  • Totally Cool Pix: Totally Cool Pix is stuffed to the gills with some very stunning photo galleries. Honestly, if you’re a fan of cameras and photography (I’m looking at you, Dad), then you could spend hours looking through all the stuff from this site.
  • Zero Punctuation: Technically not a site, Zero Punctuation is a cartoon video series for Escapist, and it’s fucking fantastic. Yahtzee Croshaw is the quintessential pissed-off hipster gamer, and the combination of his fast-talking meanness and hilarious cartoons makes this review series a must watch for any gamer.
  • Shirt.Woot.Com: I’m pretty sure I found this site from a referral on Unreality, and thank God I did. Shirt.Woot is a sort of online community where people submit quirky designs for shirts in themed contests. The winners get a day in the spotlight, and the best shirts go into the reckoning list. The one big quirk? Once your shirt is kicked off the list, you can’t buy it anymore.

Video Vriday: Cockatoo Sings ‘Let the Bodies Hit the Floor’

17 12 2010

What more is there to say? Drowning Pool, a generic 21st Century Nu Metal band, is best known for the constant repetition of that six letter phrase. And they got one-upped by a f*cking cockatoo. Honestly, I can hardly stand anything associated with Nu Metal, as (a) it all sounds the same, and (b) spelling ‘New’ as ‘Nu’ is about as clever as putting numbers in your movie title (I’m looking at you, 5 Fast 5 Furious). That said, the undisputed law of nature, which is “Exotic birds make everything better”, made me enjoy a song that’s really only been good for angsty teens and Youtube tributes to horror movie killers and 300.

The Week Ahead: Nov 22-28

21 11 2010

[Aha! It’s Thanksgiving week, I’m going to home with family and friends, and I should finally have some time to play a few dozen hours of Black Ops multiplayer. The holiday week has quite a few movies to give, and there are obviously plenty of football games to watch as we all gorge ourselves with pies and turbaconduckens. Click the jump for notes on Tangled, Faster, Donkey Kong Country, and much more!]

Who needs family when you can spend your Thanksgiving holiday with this guy?

Video Vriday: Be More Like This Man (Plus Bill and Ted’s Excellent Inception)

5 11 2010

This video… this may be one of the greatest things that I have ever seen in my life. The internet has exposed a lot of everyday dudes pulling stunts of extreme bad-assery, but none are quite as awesome as this Celtics fan. I have no clue whether it was pre-planned or not, and I don’t care. All I know is that this really happened at a Celtics game, and it is damn near the greatest video I have ever witnessed.

Oh, and there’s another video after the jump, a mash-up of the trailer to Inception with Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure. You could say, if I may use a pun, that the video is piss-poor… wait.
